The 2008 American Music Awards were held last night at the Nokia Theatre, L.A which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel of late talk show fame. A huge event this in terms of musical genre’s covered and also the sheer number of live performances which totalled 19 and the sheer volume of awards that were won.
Some random samples of the live performances on the night of extremely wide ranging quality. Whos good live, who isn’t, who actually sings live and who doesn’t. Rihanna and her quality performance did it for us!
Live performances included big names such as Alicia Keys performing “Superwoman”, Pink and Sarah McLaghlan performing together “Angel”, and Pink also performed a Solo performance with other performers including Christina Aguilera performing a 7 minute medley of her hits she billed as 7 songs in 7 minutes (see below), Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Coldplay, Natasha Bedingfield, Pussycat Dolls, Taylor Wift, Ne-Yo and New Kids on the Block, Miley Cyrus and more.
The top winners of the night were Chris Brown who won three awards including Favorite Artist of the Year and Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Kanye West, each taking home two trophies.
