Rosario Dawson and Seven Pounds Film Premiere, London

Big night last night at London’s Leicester Square with a bit of the superstar treatment in the form of none other than  Will Smith being the star of the show with Rosario Dawson who plays the female lead was unfortunately unable to attend which was a shame. It was held at the Empire Cinema.

A good night for female celebrity spotting with plenty of UK stunners including Liz McClarnon, Roxanne Palette, Danielle Lloyd, Zoe Salmon, Liz Fuller, Keisha Buchanan, Miss Great Britian Gemme Garrett and more.

But this was Will Smith’s night and he’s a good one for a film premiere, he’s a people person, no stuffiness here and is very obliging with the crowd and is a character and a huge laugh.

This is a female celebrity website but Will Smith is such a character we’ve made an exception and  included premiere video footage of him also.

Will Smith – Seven Pounds London Premiere – Wednesday 14th January 2009

Onto the film for those who are interested. This is very much a people film and as far removed from say Hollywood and the previous film Hancock as you can get. An interesting venture for Will Smith and quite different from something like the excellent “I Am Legend”. Plot below:

Seven Pounds:

Once, Tim Thomas (Will Smith) was a gifted aerospace engineer with a beautiful wife and a lovely beach house. Then, while using his cell phone while driving, his car wandered across lanes and he became responsible for the deaths of 7 others, including his beloved wife. Unable to forgive himself or raise the dead, Tim sets out to give “pounds of flesh” that will give new life to seven deserving individuals to make up for the seven lives he destroyed. Just as Antonio would have to die to pay Shylock the “pound of flesh” he demands, Tim intends to kill himself to atone for his sins. His brother Ben (Michael Ealy), who works for the IRS, is deeply concerned about his state of mind. Tim steals his brother’s IRS ID to access the IRS database and to find and meet people who he believes worthy of his gifts which includes body organs and material possessions. Holly Apelgren (Judyann Elder), Ezra Turner (Woody Harrelson), Connie Tepos (Elpidia Carrillo) and Emily Posa (Rosario Dawson) are among those whom he identifies to help. Furthermore, Tim assumes his brother’s identity of “Ben Thomas” to personally investigate these people and verify that they are indeed the right people he should help. He has a plan for when he identifies his 7 beneficiaries that requires his best friend Dan (Barry Pepper) to see that his wishes are carried out after he is dead. Tim’s plan threatens to unravel when he begins to fall in love with one of the people he is trying to help.==Synopsis== Throughout the movie, Tim helps seven people. Six of those people receive organs donated from Tim, while the remaining one receives his house.

From the limited material we have seen this will have appeal to a wide audience and its a touching film very much focusing on helping your fellow human being, the suffering of loss and the human ability to recover and move on, but its the story that is getting hammered by some critics being hailed as too flimsy.

This film is officially Unrated by us due to insufficient material/non viewing but we’ve included a few words from the Times UK that may help form an opinion but as with all critics views take with a pinch of salt, this could be just the film for some people and from the limited clips we have seen this does look to be an emotional and grass roots type of film hitting on many people aspects that will appeal to young and old alike. A tentative rating of 3 stars out 5 from us, with the power to surprise or disappoint in equal doses!

Excerpt from Times Online Review

Seven Pounds is a profoundly irritating mystery about a profoundly silly man. Will Smith keeps turning up on people’s doorsteps claiming to be a tax inspector. Is he or isn’t he? It’s a total nail-biter. True, most of Smith’s seven victims owe a stack of cash to the State. But Smith has a fishy amount of personal information about each of these complete strangers. He also drives about eight cars and lives like a billionaire.

One possibility is that Smith is a senile angel in disguise. I won’t tell you the other lest you pass out with excitement.

Rating by the Times 1 star out 5
