Beyonce was spotted in Tribeca, New York in a video shoot which is news enough, but it was the dress she was wearing that is hitting the headlines and getting the media into a lather. This is coming up as a hot search on this site! It’s groundbreaking stuff or you could say turn the clocks back stuff to Elizabethan times when strap me in corsets and miniscule waists and exaggerated child bearing hips were definetly IN and the stick was definetly not!
Beyonce decided to try this approach and it certainly has the desired effect with hips being the operative word here.
The video was being shot in New York to promote her upcoming tour called “I Am…” which will be taking place in New York this weekend and her third world tour which starts in Canada on 26 March and heads to London in June.
While Beyonce is on tour things will not be quiet music wise in the charts as she is set to release two new singles later this year one a ballad style number called Broken Hearted Girl and another slightly more uptempo number called Ego. Both videos are demo samplers but of superb sound quality!
Julia Roberts and Clive Owen were in town last night for the film premiere of “Duplicity” a spy thriller about corporate espionage and corruption with more than a hint of naughtiness and the event was held at London’s Leicester Square and as predicted there was a bit of a turnout. Clive Owen and Julia Roberts haven’t starred together since the film Closer in 2004 so this was a special occasion for them. Julia was dressed in more casual attire in a grey Dolce and Gabana trouser suite.
For a spy based film Julia Roberts does get to do a lot of kissing and does “disrobe” in one scene something she’s not normally noted for although she did the very same in “Notting Hill” with Hugh Grant, and she has been quoted as saying she was glad it was with Clive Owen who she knows well, rather than a completely different actor.
She has another film coming out soon called “Fireflies in the Garden” which is family based drama. Superb in depth interview for further information on the latest on this star who looks to be coming back into the limelight but is still family focused first at The Telegraph
Other female celebs that attended the event included Claire Richards, Tamara Ecclestone, Adele Silva.
Film Details:
A spy thriller directed by writer/director Tony Gilroy about two corporate spies that have had romantic links in the past that decide to collaborate to carry out a hugely complex con that involves trying to corner a potentially massively profitable medical innovation but involves getting in the way of large non too happy corporate machines.
Verdict.
Purely trailer based, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen have a natural chemistry here and this is an important part of the film as this justaposes very nicely with the cold corporate culture that they get embroiled in. Slight comedy leanings in places, some naughtiness and reasonable story line with predicted twists and complexities, as you would expect with spy based thrillers, acting from what we have seen is predictably good, which means there are technical elements in play here, all points to a decent film rating but nothing outstanding. Box office wise we are not sure on this one its hardly “Erin Brokovich” poor girl makes good scenario, which was a gritty and superb and moving film, but the Clive Owen/Julia Roberts big name pull will guarantee at least reasonable success. Trailer based Rating 3 stars out 5++++. It will be very interesting to see what the critics make of this one!
Another female artist in the emerging category, Marina and the Diamonds launched her debut single called Obsessions yesterday in the UK and we thought we would get the low down on what this lady is all about.
There are some question marks about “The Diamonds” part of her artist name which seems to suggest a band but when you go to her My Space page we get the impression she is a solo artist. Her influences according to her My Space include Vivienne Westwood and Mary Quant.

The Verdict:
Quirky and kooky are this girls middle name with superb vocals and looks to match, this Welsh born singer the same as Duffy, is a breath of fresh air on the music scene, pop music this is probably not, but on a second or third listen the song grows on you but this is not for everybody. Vocally we can’t fault her at all, and musically she has a unique style that is hard to imitate, it will be interesting to see where this goes in the charts but at 2 months and a mere 26K views at You Tube she is a relative unknown and it will be a huge uphill struggle to get into say the top 10 even if it is top ten material, but we would liked to be proven wrong. Technically she is there ……… Rating 3 and half stars out 5 just for the sheer originality and vocal talent on offer here!
Rose Byrne and Nicholas Cage were at the premiere of Knowing in New York last night at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square, this film is by the director of the other thriller called I Robot based on the book by Isaac Asimov which also starred Will Smith.
Stars that attended were some of the members of the film cast including Rose Byrne, Nicholas Cage, Chandler Canterbury and Lara Robinson and other celebs included Jerry Bruckheimer, TV actresses Bernadette Peters and Jill Hennessy, and actress Keke Palmer.
This film is set in present times unlike the futuristic I Robot and John Koestler (Cage), a professor, finds that the contents of a time capsule at his son’s elementary school makes predictions of the future that have come true. The predictions are based on number mapping and show the dates and mortalities involved in number format of all the worlds tragedies with only 3 left on the list yet to happen. The question is raised “What happens when the numbers run out, and with these predictions leads the teacher to believe the world is ending, and that he and his son are involved in the apocalypse. Strangely enough the film is depicted as being set in Boston but was actually filmed in Melbourne Australia.
Verdict:
The story is a bit far fetched, acting is adequate but direction on this film going on past pedigree will be on the mark. Critics we think will probably bomb this film they always do with sci fi and horror and most comedies. But for those who like disaster thriller style films then this could be your thing. The director Alex Proyas has made some decent films with the sci fi semi horror I Robot being of reasonable standard and he also directed Dark City a slightly odd but clever futuristic drama that featured a stunning Jennifer Connelly. This film looks like none of these two, but could surprise. Purely based on the trailer and based on past experience of such films where acting and complex storylines tend to go out of the window, with the cheese factor kicking in abundance in acting and script terms, our rating is a slightly below neutral Rating: 2 and half stars out 5. Box office wise could be very interesting. Nice special effects and still worth a look!
The famous Aussie model Elle MacPherson is to appear in a new set of adverts for the UK insurance giant Aviva along with other big names that include Ringo Star and Macaulay Culkin. The adverts are shown with members of the public expressing their views on what an insurance company should provide and its also to promote the change of the UK insurance giants name from The Norwich Union to Aviva.
She’s been around lately and appeared at the Womens World Award held in Vienna a few days ago alongside Monica Bellucci (see previous post) and has also recently been up the Nile in Egypt. Katherine Kelly the Corrie star who plays Becky Granger was papped outside the Granada Studios.
She is hot stuff in Coronation Street at the moment for those who follow the show, as she gets married to Steve in a Pink Bridal Gown on Friday The 13th, realises the relevance of the date, gets totally smashed on champagne, and ends up tearing her dress and it looks in doubt whether she will make the wedding in time, and also without appearing completely and utterly legless. Just a normal soap wedding by the looks of it. Total Chaos!
On a more serious note and for those who are fans of Becky Granger played by Katherine Kelly, she has just signed a new extended contract which guarantees she will be in the show until 2011!
Stella McCartney daughter of Sir Paul mcCartney held her latest Autumn/Winter Collection 2009 show at the Paris Fashion Week and these sort of events are a good place to do a bit of celebrity spotting. Quite an A list turnout for this event and the list reads as below.
Pink was at the show with Dan Matthews (picture above) and also did a PETA press conference along with Ricky Gervais and Stella McCartney furthering the PETA cause with a new campaign. Other top celebs at the Stella McCartney Show included Thandie Newton, Rachel Zoe, Charlotte Casiraghi, the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco; the singers, Kanye West, and Twiggy, and her husband, Leigh Lawson. The front row seats at the event were dominated by Paul McCartney and his new girlfriend Nancy Shevell the millionaire business woman, and Charlotte Casiraghi and not forgetting Salma Hayek who recently got married in Paris to her new, billionaire husband, Francois-Henri Pinault who was also in the coveted front row.
Of course Stella McCartney was at the event.
Paris Fashion Week started on 4th March and finishes on 14th March with big names still to appear including Chanel, Valentino, Kenzo, Chloe, Louis Vuitton and Mui Mui amongst a host of others. A Paris Fashion Week highlights gallery article will be posted at the end of the event!
