The film 2Whatever Works” stars Evan Rachel Wood and Patricia Clarkson Kristen Johnston, Larry David, Ed Begley, Jr., Michael McKean, and Henry Cavill. Evan Rachel Wood takes the female lead in this film. Its quite a significant film for director Allen as he has been shooting predominantly overseas and this is his first film based in New York for some time.
The Tribeca film festival was created by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal in 2002, after the 9/11 attacks on the World trade Centre and the resulting devastating effect on the Tribeca Area of Manhattan. Its a celebration of international film making and a way of bringing new vitality and vibrancy to this creative area. Get further details at the official Tribeca Film website
Plot and Details:
The film is a dark comedy starring Larry David as an eccentric old man from Greenwich Village who gets caught up in a series of love stories which get him in tangled up with a young girl from the south (Evan Rachel Wood) and her parents. The movie was filmed in New York City.
Verdict.
This is moving back to a more classical Woody Allen type film, along the lines of Annie Hall and Manhattan, a distributor has yet to be found for this film and trailers or any footage of any description will be hard to find. Therefore Unrated but the general vibe on this film in movie circles seems to be good.

The latest information on Salt and its filming which stars Angelina Jolie, plans have been made to close certain sections of road in upstate New York in the Downtown Albany Area in preperation for a high speed car chase scene that needs to be shot in the area which will feature manic car driving, stuntman and body doubles..
Starting Thursday 23 April 09, the ramps connecting the Plaza with I-787 will be closed for much of the day, a situation that will continue on and off until early May. Kim Kardashian has recently returned from a holiday in Mexico and was spotted today heading to the CW11 Television studios in New York City to promote her TV show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”. She was wearing a patterned shift dress and was sporting the glossy wavy haired look.
She was looking pretty hot, as she always does, and its all interesting stuff, but hardly major headline news and more of a ”spotting” news category, but what is the headline is the facial sunburn she had whilst on holiday see photo at people where she fell asleep with her sunglasses on and got some very strange tan lines on her face and ended up looking like a panda. This was mentioned by her at her Twitter page, and was days ago, check the latest photo above taken in New York and no sunburn to be seen?
It’s all the miracle of makeup which she revealed on her Twitter page ‘I’m getting glammed up by makeupbymario and about to go live on the CW!’. So there you go ,Twitter and half a ton of foundation saved the day!

Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas are back with a new single and new album both with the same name, Boom Boom Pow. A stunning new look brunette Fergie, a confident in your face title that says we are the business, we are back, and everybody else get out of the way. Lets see if this track/album title actually delivers what it promises or is it hype and bravado and not much else?
See the previous post on the making of this video and the creative thought process behind it, interesting viewing , its an analogue v digital scenario and this song picks up on our ever changing fast paced digital society that we now live in. All clever stuff but whats the song and vid like.
The Verdict:
Good intro, plenty of boom and loads of pow, the new brunette Fergie is cutting it in the looks department and vocally, the rest of the crew are on song, its a punchy kicking number, good lyrics, classy video and its got an original sound which Black Eyed Peas are renowned for, and above all its catchy and addictive but has some sort of shelf life instead of the throw away after 50 plays tag.
A decent tune that clearly has had some creative thought put into it, already getting air play from the streets of London with convertibles with bass bins, so it has street cred and it takes a lot to get that in London. But seriously, very few criticisms apart from minor repetition, this is genre specific, just a bit more soundstaging wouldn’t go amiss again genre specific, otherwise we like a lot. Rating 3 and half stars out 5. Chart wise should fly, but depends what else is out there at the time. No1 can’t be ruled out, as it has that potential, due to the catchy punchy factor!
State of Play the political thriller premiered last night in London, at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square and Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren who star in this film were at the event, and big names they are without doubt. Rachel McAdams was unable to attend.
Helen Mirren is one of those names in our opinion up there with the Winslet, Jolie, Blanchett and Streep’s of this world , names with huge acting experience and talent in abundance, names we keep an eye on, there movements causing ripples throughout the movie industry, choice of films always watched even closer as these actreses can pick and choose where they appear, and they are looking for a role that provides a challenge to stretch them to the limit and will not appear in second rate films. There choice of films also affects other actresses chances of starring in a film so the competition watches them even more closely than we do!
When names like these appear in a film, it does add some serious credibility to the film in question, although cannot guarantee the film will be superb but there is a strong chance it will be, if not at the very least it will be worth going to see. Dame Helen Mirren pictured below.
Guest list at the premiere included Amanda Seyfried of Mamma Mia fame, Bianca Gascoigne, Charles Dance, Dominic Cooper, Hannah Spearitt, Helen Mirren, Jamelia, Kevin Macdonald, Russell Crowe, and Tamara Ecclestone who was also at the “Star Trek premiere the previous night.
The Plot
State of Play is a 2009 American political thriller. It is a film adaptation of the critically acclaimed 6-part British television serial State of Play, which first aired on BBC One in 2003 and is directed by Kevin Macdonald. The film tells of a journalist’s probe into the suspicious death of a Congressman’s mistress. Russell Crowe plays the journalist and Ben Affleck plays the Congressman. Support comes from Helen Mirren who plays Cal McAffrey (Crowe’s ) boss, Jason Bateman, Robin Wright Penn, Rachel McAdams, and Jeff Daniels.
The plot is similar to that of the original 6-part program, retaining several main characters, but condensing and changing certain aspects to fit the two-hour format. The film is set in Washington, D.C. and tells of Stephen Collins (Affleck), a fast-rising United States Congressman whose mistress (Maria Thayer), a former research assistant, is found dead in suspicious circumstances. During a probe into a series of seemingly unrelated murders, Cal McAffrey (Crowe), an investigative journalist and Collins’ former friend, finds himself tasked with solving the case.
Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, and Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck in the same film, on paper this looks to be a no brainer review, but thats on paper, on closer inspection things can be a little different and flaws could surface.
In reality Helen Mirren and Russell Crowe shine on this film and with respect to Rachel McAdams, outclass this actress but Rachel provides more than enough in the beauty element of the film to compensate. Mirren only plays a supporting role, but her presence even in this kind of role cannot be denied. This film combines, action, plot, tension and drama and something to get the grey matter going with plenty of investigative journalism v blogging play offs in reference to news reporting with Rachel McAdams playing the blogger trying to get that story.
Plenty of twists and entrance of new characters to keep you guessing as to what will happen next, but not so complex you end up getting lost in twists, a staple of this type of film genre. Some critics reference the BBC TV Series that this film was based on has the edge, the adaptation and condensing of this series into a 2 hour film is, though, commendable indeed.
Classy cast line up, slick production, oodles of screen presence but not a film for everybody, political type drama’s are an acquired taste, and in box office terms this is probably more of a Top 5 than a No1 smash, but a solid film none the less, if this is your thing.
It’s hardly Star Trek and not exactly Hannah Montana the Movie but this film in our opinion has the technical superior edge. The Mirren and Crowe factor will still pull in the punters and McAdams fans will not be let down as she is looking very good in this film indeed, Affleck fans again join the queue. It will be interesting to see which way the media critics go with this one, as it looks a difficult film to mark down no matter which way you cut it and we will be reading their reviews with interest! Rating 3 and half stars out of 5
