Day 7 of Wimbledon 2009 and the Fourth Round results, all winners of this round go through to the Quarter finals. This is where things start to get serious as all players will be on the home straight with their sights on that Wimbledon Trophy.

The Williams sisters predictably sailed through their respective matches (Serena Williams photo above (Getty) and the Top Ten seeded casualties continue with Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark seeded No 9 now out and Nadia Petrova of Russia No 10 seed also out. Importantly the World no1 Dinara Safina is through. This is looking increasingly likely to be yet again a Williams sister final but its still early days yet, this is Wimbledon and anything can happen! 

Big upset of the day was Ana Ivanovic who played very well in this event and looked to be set to give Venus Williams a tough match at least, is now also out after having to retire(see previous article for explanation)  Photo below Venus Williams consoling Ana Ivanovic at the end of the match! Day 7 Round 4 Wimbledon 2009 Womens Results. Numbers prior to name indicate seeding

1-Dinara Safina (Russia) beat 17-Amelie Mauresmo (France) 4-6 6-3 6-4 

Sabine Lisicki (Germany) beat 9-Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) 6-4 6-4 

Francesca Schiavone (Italy) beat 26-Virginie Razzano (France) 6-2 7-6(1) 

2-Serena Williams (US) beat Daniela Hantuchova (Slovakia) 6-3 6-1 

8-Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) beat 10-Nadia Petrova (Russia) 7-6(5) 2-6 6-3 

3-Venus Williams (US) beat 13-Ana Ivanovic (Serbia) 6-1 0-1 Ivanovic retired. 

11-Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland) beat Melanie Oudin (US) 6-4 7-5 

4-Elena Dementieva (Russia) beat Elena Vesnina (Russia) 6-1 6-3
