According to the Official Charts Company, The Element Of Freedom is in third place on the album midweek chart behind Florence and The Machine and Paolo Nutini in the UK.

Provided the record does not drop by Sunday, Keys will beat her previous peak position on the chart in 2001 when her debut album “Songs In A Minor” reached number six in the UK

Meanwhile her new single ‘Empire State Of Mind (Part II) the reworked solo version without Jay Z’ is expected to climb into the Top 10 on Sunday. The surge in interest in Alicia Keys has been attributed to her live performance on the Johnathan Ross Show last Friday in the UK performing “Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart ”

Rumours are flying around that she is currently on holiday with Swiss Beatz and they are now engaged celebrating the fact in Hawaii but an Alicia Keys spokesperson has denied this. Check the Daily Mail for their version of the story!

Some real grass roots music here with a quick interview with Sara Watkins who is the violinist  from Nickel Creek who has now branched out on her own. She classes her music style as folk/bluegrass/pop. This is her first solo offering a chilled number called “Too Much” which is due to come out here in the UK next week.

A live performance on the Lightning 100 Nashville’s Independent Radio Station a while back in 2009, to see what she is like live (above) seconds after drinking a mug of coffee…..doesn’t get anymore live than this!

Verdict: Simple, traditional but impressive stuff…we like this and there’s talent here……will it grab the UK crowd…that remains to be seen!

Marina and the Diamonds who is being billed by some media as the Florence and the Machine for 2010 but without the red hair?, either way she has a new single out called “Hollywood” which is due out on 1 February. Slightly unusual number but her vocals are something else. Deserves to do well in the charts as it’s a fresh and original sound but not sure whether this will push everybodies buy button, even if it has to be said…. her looks do, as it’s not exactly Lady GaGa! This single is taken from her debut album ‘The Family Jewels’, out on 22nd February 2010. One to watch!

Uffie  has got a new single out called MC’s Can Kiss and the digital EP is already out.  Her previous offerings have been ‘Ready To Uff’, ‘Pop The Glock’ and ‘Hot Chick’. This lady is a doesn’t give a damn Parisian and its reflected in her near talking vocals/lyrics. It’s a slow starter but this rap based dance number starts to move at about 30 seconds in. The 3 Star girl band line up performed at Koko’s in Camden Town, London and one of their songs they performed was the new what they are calling “Switch Version” of “Wear My Kiss” with the new Jade Ewen vocals mixed in. First off style and fashion she’s been busy doing photo shoots to launch her debut solo tour which happens later this year. Photos have been released of Cheryl in a short silver dress which is held together by a single mind boggling spiral zip. Get them at The Sun

Second off with regards to music, the news is out she will be supporting the Black Eyed Peas on their UK tour for eight dates during May/June. The venues number three including The London o2 Arena, Birimingham LG Arena and The Manchester MEN Arena. Third off and music again, not content with a debut live solo tour, she’s also been busy recording for The Sun’s “Helping Haiti” single due to be released soon. Watch out for Coco Sumner, she’s on her way! Daughter of Trudie Styler and Sting she has decided to call herself “I Blame Coco” in an independent statement to say “Yes I am the daughter of Sting but I’m going my own way, with my own name and my own music”. Glad thats sorted out!

She’s been on My Space for a while now with various samplers which are a bit more on the raw side compared to this new offering.

Caeser is the eagerly awaited new single with an interesting feat of Robyn of With Every Heartbeatfame. This is a distinctly more commercial offering designed to crack the poppy charts but still sticking to her slightly alternative style. Getting the thumbs up from music critics. Robyn adds the slightly more girly tones whilst Coco does the grungier lines and this duo works a treat. Thumbs up from us, pretty good for a debut, chart wise could do well as it’s a different and original sound but not too different….!
