Serena Williams is through to the semi finals at Wimbledon 2010 after beating the No9 seed Li Na of China in two straight sets 7-5, 6-3 a not disimilar score to the one notched up in her victory against Maria Sharapova prior to this match. Li Na was no push over and Serena has the experience and wisdom to respect that, see the game through patiently and gradually pile on the pressure until something has got to give. It has to be said Li Na did very well indeed and is certainly somebody to keep an eye on in the future.

Serena Williams Post Quarter Final Match Interview
The Semi Finals draws are as follows:
Serena Williams USA (1)
v
Petra Kvitova CZE (62)
Vera Zvonareva RUS (21)
v
Tsvetana Pironkova BUL (82)
Serena faces a new problem now and that is the threat in the form of the no82 seed that beat her sister in the Quarter finals and that’s Tsvetana Pironkova which could be a possible meet in the finals. The worry here is she is a relative unknown to Serena and unknowns can be dangerous. Get drawn against Klijsters, Henin, Jankovic, Sharapova, you know their style, their weaknesses and strengths and these things rarely change, but an 82nd seed player pretty much out of nowhere that beats your sister the No2 seed and you get the dreaded situation of “Houston We Have a Problem” . We are hoping this is not shaping up to be the same ending as the 2010 French Open. With Serena now the only Top 20 seeded player in the closing stages and the other two players are ranked 21 and 62 along with the Venus Williams beating TsvetanaPironkova at 82nd seed, on paper it looks a Serena definite win. In practice as Serena Williams is all too aware, if they have come this far and have reached the semi’s she will be wise to play just as hard and probably harder to ensure nothing stands in the way of her keeping her Queen of Wimbledon authority on that court and the Wimbledon Women’s title and crown. We have put no odds on these as we feel these players chances of winning and associated odds are merely academic and no indicator of what could really happen on the day! Who de we back? Serena 100%!
