Catherine Zeta Jones and the 2010 Tony Awards and Acceptance Speech!

Catherine Zeta Jones is hitting the headlines with some positive and strangely not so positive headlines surrounding the actress. First off the positive news. The Tony Awards were held other day which is basically the Oscars for the Theatre as opposed to film. In viewing terms it’s a very small fraction of the main Oscars but Catherine Zeta Jones has been causing a stir on broadway with her role as Desiree in “A Little Night” that has had the critics getting in a lather (not very often you see that) and as a result she was awarded the “Best Actress in A Musical” gong.

Now onto the not so positive news. The Catherine Zeta Jones acceptance speech is the thing that is hitting the headlines with the press going ballistic on this with the Mirror saying “Catherine Zeta-Jones looks like a drag act with a scary pair of false eyelashes”  and Sky News saying “‘Crass’ Zeta-Jones Sorry Over Tony Speech”  NEW YORK - JUNE 13: Catherine Zeta-Jones accepts her award onstage during the 64th Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall on June 13, 2010 in New York City. Now we do like Catherine Zeta Jones and we think she is a superb actress BUT this is one of those acceptance speeches that just ticks all the wrong boxes……….better to get off quickly then dig yourself in deeper with an overlong speech and a visibly cringing husband Michael Douglas. This speech would go down awfully well at something like one of the MTV awards though.

Swiftly onto the other winners and Viola Davis won a gong for Best Leading Actress in a play, and Scarlett Johansson also was awarded with a gong for Best Featured Actress in a Play. Full winners list below
