Serena Williams reclaims her Wimbledon Crown!

Some would say Serena Williams victory over Vera Zvonereva was predictable but if you watched the final match in the early stages it was anything but. A very special match for both these players but the game Serena was playing was to enter the history books and win 13 Grand slam Titles that would put her ahead of her idol and tennis legend Billie Jean King.

The actual final score was Serena Williams 6-3, 6-2 over Vera Zvonereva which on paper looks to be a very one sided final. But go beyond the score and analyse within the sets and many a time Vzonereva dominated only to be pipped to the post by Serena to claim the set point. Things were fairly even up to that point up to about 3-3 in the first set but Serena unfazed by scores in her favour or not carried on regardless to finish the all important 6-3 to claim the first set.

Vzonereva kept on fighting though in the second set but Serena just kep repeating her deadly serves into the top right corner making it very difficult to return with any control at all. At around 3-2 in the second set to Serena, Vzonereva was still fighting and even started to get the crowd behind her when things went her way and she pulled out all the stops, but the level of game play here was starting to get to her and the look in her eye in the latter stages of this second set was one of slowly realising defeat once Serena started to get into full swing.

With Serena Williams winning The Ladies Wimbledon 2010 this is now her 13th Grand slam Title. Vzonereva it has to be said did herself proud in this final and this will give her excellent experience for her future campaigns and raise the bar on her game play.

With the US Open on the horizon and the final Grand Slam of the year, Serena Williams looks to be coming on form for another possible win on home turf based on the current form of her opposition. With 3 relative unknowns in the semi finals though  that didn’t get there by fluke or accident, there’s new blood knocking on the door of the No1 slot and they look very good indeed. Serena is well aware of that fact but is also aware these things take time, we think she will be at the very top for some time to come and will remain the Queen of women’s tennis and the one to beat!

Don’t normally post on Sundays unless it is something exceptional. This 13th Grand Slam Win by Serena has to be one of those exceptions!
