Alesha Dixon has a new number out on 5th September called “Drummer Boy”. The video on first appearances rocks, she’s gone as the Sun puts it “all M.I.A and tribal” on us, is this all shaping up to be a decent number from Alesha.

The Verdict.

“Harder…Harder….Harder” Hmmm! We like the video it kicks and it’s original  so top marks there and Alesha is looking just a bit on the steamy side.  Onto the song and this is where things start to hit choppy waters. “Breathe Slow” we reviewed some time ago came out at a incredibly good 4 stars and this song “Drummer Boy” has got to be as far removed from that song as you can possibly get.

We are a bit lost as to where this song is going, is it R and B….sort of, is it going down the club route, we’re not so sure. It’s got energy, it’s got mediocre lyrics and it’s got the very good Alesha vocals but we are lost on the message here, what’s it all about apart from Drummers. A big question mark also hangs over repeated airplay of this song as in longevity an important factor in our final rating?

For some reason it’s not pushing any buttons for us here at all although its scoring high on the originality front even if it does have M.I.A undertones. Does this mark a more aggresive musical direction for Alesha. Again we’re not sure we think this could be a toe bath water tester.

This song is going to cut it with a lot of people on the originality factor, maybe on a second listen it will grow on us, and chart wise Alesha has a decent following so it could do well………………….BUT we are not hitting replay on this and we’re ending up just slightly above neutral with a take it or leave it score from us. Rating 3 stars+, a technically competent and very original sounding tune laced with many question marks that with us mark it down!
