After her last single release called “Naturally” which got a critical roasting here and came out at 2 stars with this new offering called “A Year Without Rain” will there be any improvement?
It’s always a hair raising experience watching an actress turn to music, some manage to pull it off, most don’t for obvious reasons, they are completely different things altogether. With Selena Gomez’s last single we can just remember the lyrics “I am the thunder……..you are the lightning” and the words “Oh Dear” were muttered on that one. Now we are into her follow up number “A Year Without Rain” as the title, has there been any improvement. We really hope so, can’t get any worse can it???
The Verdict:
Looking at the video, Selena looks the biz, are we copying Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” here with the road trip theme? The video is not exceptional, not exactly original but it does the job and shows off Selena very well indeed so JOB DONE!
Onto the song and the lyrics are in the OK category, the vocals are again OK and the backing is where things get interesting some decent synth and interesting percussion stuff going on in the background, there’s some sort of layering here top marks there.
Not too repetitive, originality here is a mark down as it’s pure manufactured pop and nothing more, but it’s listenable and catchy. All in all this is not a bad number at all, vast improvement on her previous offering. Rating 3 stars! Looks like things are improving. Will she get a 4 star rating on the next one?
