Scream 4 Film of the Week!
Looking to find out which is the pick of the crop for this weeks UK film releases. Don’t want to waste your hard earned cash on sitting in a cinema watching a film that turns out to be a major bum numbing endurance test with everybody throwing popcorn at the screen. Then you had better read on!
This weeks film releases under the kosh include Your Highness, Scream 4, Meeks CutOff, Red Riding Hood and not forgetting Winnie The Pooh. All condensed version reviews by Alex Zane of The Sun with a dash of sarc from yours truly with of course the all important trailers something you would not get in the hard copy of the paper. It’s a cracking line up……….question is are they any good?
Your Highness. A sort of historical but not hysterical comedy featuring Danny Mc Bride, James Franco and recent Oscar Winning Natalie Portman. It’s got the line up but does it deliver? The basic plot is Thadeous (McBride) sets out to kill an evil warlock and rescue his brother Fabious (Franco) bride to be Isabel (Portman) and the hilarious adventure they get thrown into??. It’s a sort of Meet The Spartans meets Willow. It’s funny in places but not quite funny enough and can get quite stupid. If you like stupid films this could be your bag. Rating 2 stars
Scream 4. On the film poster it says “New Decade New Rules”. Our question is “New decade is it any better than the awful Scream 3?” This has been written by the original script writer from Scream 1 and 2 and features Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette amongst a number of other stars. Wes Craven has pulled off the original but thrown in a few clever references to other films within this latest offering. It’s a horror that is funny as well. It’s the classic “the phone is ringing…outside of the film you know you shouldn’t answer it………..but in the film they never learn and always pick it up”. Coming out as a mediocre Rating of 3 stars. FILM OF THE WEEK by virtue there’s nothing exceptional this week!
Meeks Cutoff: This is a Western all about the early pioneers of the now United States of America being led across the desert by a lost guide called Meek. Starring Michelle Williams and Bruce Greenwood. Being billed as “The Mild West” as opposed to the “Wild West” if you’re looking for guns at dawn and gunslinger style action this will not be for you. If you are more interested on what it must have been like in those early pioneering days and the trials and tribulations that had to be endured then this could be your thing. Coming out as an average view at a Rating of 3 stars!
Red Riding Hood.Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke boldly ventures into the classic fairytale of the red hooded girl and the big bad wolf to turn it into a Hollywood number. does she succeed? . Amanda Seyfried and Max Irons star who are decent names but iIn short the film delivers visually but is let down by a poor script and a story that leaves you feeling a bit short changed. Amanda Seyfried is good but severely hampered by the script. Zane compares this film to something like Sleepy Hollow that starred Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp, a good film and Red Riding Hood unfortunately is nowhere near as good. Rating 2 stars
Winnie the Pooh: A classic animated film that has been given a new lease of life but keeping the original timeless old school animation feel with Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and all the other characters embarking on a new up to date adventure. It’s pretty good but coming out as average. Rating 3 stars. If you love Winnie The Pooh it’s a no brainer!
