2011 Wimbledon Seedings and Analysis!

With the French Open now past and Wimbledon 2011 starting today. here’s a closer look at the seedings for both the Men’s and Women’s events (published on 15 June) and a closer look at the possible front runners at this coveted event. Basically there is no change at the top with Rafael Nadal still Seeded No1 and Caroline Wozniacki Seeded No1 in the women’s event.

Things are relatively stable in the men’s game with the Top 4 seedings showing no change since The French Open but there is some volatility in the Women’s tennis with Kim Clijsters having to pull out of the event due to an injury which means Vera Zvonereva moves from 3 to 2. Chinas Li Na is now seeded at No4 after her recent French Open Win. Recent additions also add some complications with the return of the Williams sisters with Venus just in the running at No23 and her sister Serena former World No1 is straight in at No7 after her recent absence.

Recent headlines seem to suggest that Roger Federer is in with a strong chance of possibly winning this event and this is backed by some seasoned professionals, after showing a good return to form at the French Open on a clay surface that is much preferred by Nadal. Wimbledon is a grass event which could play into Feeder’s favour and if he shows some more consistent brilliance that are his hallmarks such as he did in brief flashes at the French Open the title could be his. Of course World No2 Djokovic is in with a solid chance and the UK flag carrier Andy Murray is on home turf and the crowd support for this gutsy player will be high which can only help.

In the womens tennis things are wide open. It could be a World No1 Wozniacki win, possibly Li Na of China who is coming into her own, Maria Sharapova who is also hitting form, Victoria Azarenka and also the new blood player Vera Zvonereva who did incredibly well last year and was a finalist up against Serena Williams at this event. Francesca Schiavone who was runner up at the French Open could crack it but she loves clay. Serena Williams also can’t be discounted but we think she has her work cut out after such a long break but she is a superb player and could surprise but it will be hard for her based on current fitness. The US Open later in the year is a safer bet for her, by then full fitness at competition level would have returned. But as they say “never say never”

Wimbledon unlike the French Open tends to run very closely to seedings as the event progresses but as was demonstrated last year, 2 relative newcomers managed to make it to the semi finals in the women’s tennis last year which throws that theory out of the window.. Zvonereva despite her average performance at the French Open we think could be in with a chance here but it’s all down to the luck of the draw. Wide open is the verdict at the Women’s event.

Of course we will be watching the event closely!
