Zooey Deschanel and the Winnie the Pooh Premiere. LA!

Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel

What a great way to start the week. Who doesn’t like a bit of Winnie The Pooh and if you don’t you should! The Winnie The Pooh premiere was held last night in LA   at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. Zooey Deschanel and Tom Kenny were at the event for this classic animation updated for 2011. Zooey Deschanel  as far as we can gather is not lending her voice to this animation film but she grabs the headline because as we say in London she was looking “alwight”

The Plot:
The film is based on three stories found in the Milne books. Two stories are from Winnie-the-Pooh: “In Which Eeyore Loses a Tail and Pooh Finds One,” and “In Which Piglet Meets a Heffalump.” The other story is found in The House at Pooh Corner: “In Which Rabbit Has a Busy Day and We Learn What Christopher Robin Does in the Mornings.” Courtesy Wiki.

The film stars Jim Cummings as Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Tom Kenny as Rabbit, Craig Ferguson as Owl, Travis Oates as Piglet, Bud Luckey as Eeyore

The film is apparently being released on 15 July according to the trailer. That’s not particularly good timing as Harry Potter comes out on the same day. Could be interesting in box office terms? Seem to remember reading some good reviews on this though!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Attend the BAFTA Brits To Watch Event. LA!

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

The BAFTA Brits To Watch Event was held at the Belasco Theatre last night  in Los Angeles. The new Royal couple the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in attendance on the ninth day of their first joint overseas tour visiting Canada and the United States. This was the inaugural event for this BAFTA occasion. With a  250 strong guest list including many A listers this was very much a black tie affair, and as you can imagine the big names turned out for this one. Apparently quite a few of even the top celebs were worried about things like protocol and what to say, what not to say how to bow and courtsy and other such regal things and resist the urge to give them a quick hug.

The guest list reads like a who’s who. Here’s some names that jumped off that list, blast from the past tennis star stunner Anna Kournikova, Actress and Singing legend Barbra Streisand, Blake Lively of Gossip Girl, Cat Deeley TV presenter, Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl, Gordon Ramsay Chef, Jack Black Comedy Actor, Jennifer Garner Actress, Jennifer Lopez needs no introduction, Nicole Kidman Actress, Piers Morgan TV Personality, Quentin Tarantino Director, Stephen Fry, Tom Hanks and Zooey Deschanel.  The Duchess of Cambridge is grabbing the headlines with the media though as the one setting the pace in the fashionista stakes. No surprises there then!

Trust and this weeks film reviews. The Good. The Average and the Grim!

A scene from Trust

A Scene from Trust

Films are tricky things to figure out as to whether they are good or just plain awful. Yes you have the trailers on You Tube but it’s easy just to stick all the good bits in 2 minutes, whats the other 1 hour 58 minutes like? You could go by the posters that all say “The Best Film of the Year” “This film is definitely worthy of an Academy Award” ” A must see do not miss this” with always 4 and 5 star ratings. Yeah Right! Maybe just go by the poster itself “yes that looks good what a lovely design “and dive in but you’ve heard the expression don’t judge a book by its cover.

How about going with those high brow critics that rarely ever give 5 stars and use terms like “the film left a sacharin after taste” what’s that all about?, OR ” the film suffers from serious plot holes” god I hate that line and they never identify where those plot holes actually are do they? OR “This film is a CGI eye candy spectacular that will not require any brain cell activity on your part whatsoever AVOID” ? Sometimes we don’t want to be entering an edition of Mastermind we want eye candy special effects, loads of explosions and women in bikinis with limited dialogue where we can switch our brains off and wallow in the joy of it all after a beer or ten.

Which brings us nicely onto this weeks film reviews. With a helping hand from Alex Zane and Grant Rollings from The Sun we unravel the mystery that is the latest film releases and try to find which are the Good, which are the Average and which are the Grim. This weeks films are an odd mix with a couple of strange offerings including Trust, Super, Huge, The Tree of Life and The Devil’s Rock. All reviews have trailers in HD where available all with a dash of unavoidable sarcasm the lowest form of wit from yours truly.

Super.Think Kick Ass but just a bit more down market with a struggling with life guy deciding to dress up as a super hero and of course this wouldn’t be completed without the girl sidekick a bit like Tarzan and Jane.Rainn Wilson plays this superhero type called Crimson Bolt. Ellen Page plays his helper babe called Boltie who has a bit of a foul mouth on her just like Hit Girl out of Kick Ass. The budget on this film is no where near the film Kick Ass and it shows and unfortunately Kick Ass came out first, has been and gone and this film is not a patch and is firmly in the Kick Ass shadow. Still comes out at 3 stars. If this is your thing then it’s worth a look. If you’ve seen Kick Ass then probably worth missing!

The Harry Potter World Premiere London. Part 1. How big was it? Photos!

This is Part 1 of the Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 World Premiere, The only way to tackle this “thing” is  to break it down into smaller still very large parts as this was a big event. This is the last of the Harry Potter films and I was expecting it to be big but not like this.  It was broadcast live via a stack of websites including You Tube but you can’t beat a photo as in still image to give you a fixed idea of what it was actually like. Also you can’t beat being there in person. There’s no red carpet shots, no stars, none of that this is just focusing on the sheer size of this event from a crowd perspective. The stars and red carpet shots come next!

Big is not really the word though for this premiere. To give you an idea of how big this thing was Leicester Square was solid which looked to be the secondary staging area, you couldn’t move with police and security everywhere and of course Harry potter fans and tourists caught up in the throng. . That’s where premiere’s like this are normally held. But the main arrivals for the premiere wasn’t here it was in Trafalgar Square around the corner. I was wondering WHY? . When I arrived there the question was answered quite graphically. It was like the old New years Eve celebrations before they were held on the Embankment but without people dancing in the fountains. Trafalgar Square was  absolutely chocker solid, there were Helicopters overhead, the crowd I would say was about 50 deep maybe more you couldn’t get any where near. I was muttering religious words throughout the 45 minutes I was there, either that or just gob smacked. and it takes a lot for me to get like that. I’ve never seen anything like this for a film premiere. NEVER!
