The 2011 V Festival took place over this weekend and if you weren’t there you missed out big time. This Virgin sponsored event some would say is better than Glasto as the line up is just as impressive but it’s condensed down to 2 days and mud doesn’t seem to feature as heavily in the headlines at this event and it doesn’t take a lifetime to see it all . Even a lot of the artists rate this event so that must tell you something. In size terms the event had a crowd of 120000 that’s big with Glasto this year apparently being in the region of 170K and the biggest.

Truly massive line up here with UK and International heavyweights putting in  a presence covering all sorts of music without it turning into the massive camping expedition that is the Glastonbury experience. If you’ve been to Glasto (think I was there this year, was so out of it can’t remember) then you’ll know what we are talking about. You could even do a one day job on this V Festival and still come out laughing.

The event is unusual in that it takes place in 2 venues at the same time, the first being at Hylands Park in Chelmsford in Essex and the second being in Weston Park in South Staffordshire. Artists  perform on a Saturday at one venue then swap over and perform at the other on Sunday and vice versa. 4 stages include the Virgin stage, 4 Music Stage, Big Blue Tent and the Virgin Undercover stage.

Highlights included Rihanna, The Saturdays, Jessie J (liveon stage with left leg still in a cast), Bruno Mars, Artic Monkeys,Kaiser Chiefs, Plan B, N Dubz and Eminem and just simply absolutely stacks more. The closing performance at the Chelmsford venue was from both Eminem and Rihanna and Love The Way You Lie.
