The Laureus Sports Awards have been hitting the headlines over the weekend in London with promo events and a pre event party. This sports awards event takes place at Central Hall, Westminster on February 6  in London which makes that tonight. As you can imagine this pulls in the big names from British and Global Sport and also other stars outside of sport but with sport links are drawn to this event..

The Laureus World Sports Awards are awarded annually to sports people who have been outstanding during the previous year. The Laureus World Sports Awards were established in 1999. The awards are voted for by either a media selection panel, specialist panel and the final group of awards are by the Founding Patrons. Further details below of the main award winners.

Breakthrough of the Year: Rory McIlroy
Comeback of the Year: Darren Clarke
Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability: Oscar Pistorius
Action Sportsperson of the Year: Kelly Slater
Lifetime Achievement Award: Bobby Charlton
Sports for Good Award: Raí Souza

That’s the awards with the results coming out after the event, but who was on the red carpet? Some big names here including Alan Shearer, Sir Alex Ferguson (something to do with Man Utd), Bar Rafaeli (model) , Bear Grylls, Boris Becker, Chris Hemsworth, Clive Owen, Denise Lewis, Dermot O’Leary, Novak Djokovic (World Tennis No1), Steve Waugh and Thandie Newton. As this article is about red carpet arrivals then Thandie Newton or Bar Rafaeli would be the headline grabbers but as it’s a sports awards event Alex Ferguson grabs the headline. He’s a Brit household name, a Sir and a legendary Man Utd football manager and probably the name that carries the most respect at this event in our opinion. And NO I’m not a Man U supporter!
