After a long and careful chew on this, it has been decided to keep Twitter as an automated blog update portal handy for marketing the updates and articles of the Famefad.com website. Our main social network presence as from today is being focused (and has been the last couple of months) on Facebook. Basically Twitter is just not doing it for me or the Famefad website and never has, to be perfectly honest.
The Facebook social network site we have had major benefits from when particular articles go seriously viral on this platform something that never happens onTwitter, not for us anyway in any shape or form. Twitter is something you have to be on 24/7 to get something out of it unless you’re a celeb, it’s a lot of hard work with very little return (for us anyway) and if you’re not careful this thing can take over your life to the detriment of say your website or blog.
The loyalty factor is pretty grim with followers on their just seeming to be interested in the numbers game unless you follow them backthen the loyalty is obviously there as their follower count has gone up 1. This doesn’t happen on Facebook near as much..Frankly a good 50% of the updates are just dull tedious and mind blowingly boring to the extent I haven’t looked at the Famefad timeline for the last 2 or 3 months, it just looks like a pile of never ending spam and garbage..The bottom line is I don’t make any money on this Twitter Page whereas we do on the website/blog!
At the time of writing 502 people have been unfollowed today and just 18 are left. These 18 are real people or organisations that have done Famefad some favours in the past or just made me laugh consistently, this has been remembered and the follow is there and will be there in the future as long as we have an account at Twitter unless of course you unfollow us. That’s just the way I am. Our lists including Media and PR and UK and Global Celebrities are unaffected by these changes and remain.
On the plus side though Twitter will still be used as it’s handy to find out celeb thoughts and latest news but more behind the scenes in a journalistic sort of way and there will be no social interaction on the Famefad channel from today and there hasn’t been for the last couple of months anyway.
The thing is I don’t think it’s just us either, there’s an increasing amount of dormant accounts cropping up on our lists here lately, some respectable names having 10K followers suddenly disappearing (real people I’ve personally interacted with as well not bots) which again just confirms why the move has been made today to basically shift our efforts to Facebook for social networking.
In summary @famefad basically will feature automated updates that pretty much feature on the RSS Feed on the blog and that’s it, so our presence is still there but in automated form only. I hit the update button at Famefad and the update appears on the blog and on our Twitter page undedited with no logging on from me required at all.
This frees up a considerable amount of time to focus on the Famefad blog and anything social or community will be at our Facebook Page at http://facebook.com/famefadfans. My personal page advertised @famefad (quite dull and slow at present a sort of kicking a ball in the park account at present) may become a bit more active in the future and that may be used as an interaction page instead while I’m out and about, that could be interesting and could combine well with the new FJ Mobile updates that are proving popular. This is something I think Twitter is more geared up to. Twitter is a superb platform, don’t get me wrong, and has tons of uses, just none of them really of much interest to us here at Famefad the website!
At our Twitter @famefad we predict the follower count will go into free fall from today as a result of this announcement .This could have a detrimental short term effect on the site but somehow I don’t think so and the time benefits far outway the cons as far as we’re concerned!
Watch for further news!
