EXTRA Review
Let’s put Cheryl and this song and video through the griller.
The Video:
Starts with the line “The only way to a womans heart is a long path of torment“.
Deep. Very deep……..judging by that statement Ashley is still in with a chance then?.
Moving swiftly on, we have a bit of a bizarre intro that has you checking things are runnning OK on your PC/Laptop/Ipad thing or whatever. A multiocloured Cheryl parading through in her underwear at times. big hair, obedient men looking on (Ashley Cole not in the line up), LA Storm drains being the back drop (didn’t Nicle Scherzinger use a similar location in her recent vid) and rather colourful heels complete the effect. What can we say, choreography is OK, it’s hot, it’s smouldering if a tad aggressive in places, but it does the job and showcases Cheryl (every bit) a treat. Job done.
The Song: After the initial panic of the intro we’re straight into the Call My Name chorus line with Cheryl coming at you in a big way. It’s poppy, slightly clubby, catchy, and designed to drill into your brain. Breaking the song down into its’ components paints a different picture, it’s vocally average and technically more of the same. The chorus outshines the verse on this song that’s the problem, the verse is weak and that Call My Name chorus line is making it look feeble in comparison. Chorus should always be stronger that’s your sales pitch but not unevenly so. Lyrics again are average but that’s to be expected for a poppy number. Baseline could have a bit more bite to it as well. Last but not least is the shelf life factor which would be short on this one, beyond 100 plays would be the supreme test! Rating without video. Average. With video a tad higher.
Chart Prediction. It’s Cheryl. No 1 if not high in the top 10!
