Robin Gibb one of the brothers in the infamous line up of the disco group The Bee Gees has died after a long battle with Cancer aged 62. The Bee Gees are famous for their hits such as How Deep Is Your Love, Stayin’ Alive, and Tragedy back in the 70′s and 80′s in the days of Disco. The brothers also wrote major hits for other artists including Diana Ross’s Chain Reaction and Islands In The Stream for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

The Bee Gees are probably remembered mostly for their major musical backing in the film Saturday Night Fever which had a corresponding album that achieved similar status in the music charts and is now a cult classic that starred John Travolta and spawned many hits . More than 200 million records  have been sold by The Bee Gees and helped turn disco into a worldwide phenomenon.

Gibb’s twin brother Maurice died of a heart attack in 2003 following intestinal surgery.

According to TheTelegraph Paul Gambaccini had this to say about Robiin gibb and The Bee Gees

Everyone should be aware that the Bee Gees are second only to Lennon and McCartney as the most successful songwriting unit in British popular music

Their accomplishments have been monumental. Not only have they written their own number one hits, but they wrote huge hit records for Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Celine Dion, Destiny’s Child, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, the list goes on and on

Tributes as expected arrived rapidly with names such as Bryan Adams, Dannii Minogue and more paying tribute. British singer songwriter Mick Hucknall of Simply red Fame had a simple but effective tribute : “RIP Robin Gibb. A musical giant” Our sentiments here entirely!
