The Prometheus Premiere was held last night (31 May) at The Empire in Leicester Square and a few big stars turned out for this one and a certain celebrity blogger and photographer by the name of FJ was also in attendance. This was a personal visit and this article is written in that style. Was not there in any professional capacity whatsoever, (well maybe partially) no pressure, just grab a few shots, if I get anything resembling a couple of stars I’ll be happy. The shots that appear here are shots that anybody could take with a bit of premiere and camera savvy, it’s just knowing where to stand (the spot is vital and more important than the camera) and having a camera that can cherry pick people out 50-100yds away is handy and a fast lens is very helpful to keep shutter speeds high to stop blur and keep things razor sharp..Bridge cameras are ideal for this sort of thing providing they have a fast lens, most unfortunately do not! More photos below.
Arrived about 5 ish, tried to get in the press area to no avail (no event pass which does help) so it’s Plan B and approach the premiere in a street photographic and candid style, the full on dazzling feet away wow style shots that could appear on the front page of the National Paper is not going to happen here today for me. .
Got a spot at the front of the railings in the general public area with a bit of push and shove. . That was easy……….too easy? Within half an hour it’s dawned on me we’re in a dead zone, there’s no carpet here (stars don’t walk on concrete at premieres). This was definitely not the place to be, cars would arrive here and drive straight through this area and the stars would be getting out the other end 50 yds away. Not good..a move is in order …pronto!
Found a good spot where the red carpet (blue for this event) starts and the cars will probably stop at and also had a good straight view 100yards down the carpet. Problem is it’s 3 to 4 deep and filling rapidly as people have rumbled this could be a good spot as well. A few excuse me’s and I’m in about 3 rows back and it’s getting deeper as I arrive. Got a spot with short people in front (I’m 6ft). Sorted. . A few spots of rain start to appear, the decent DSLR camera plan is abandoned, we’ll use the backup 10 year old trusty Fuji dinosaur 3mp bridge camera with a cracking fast f2.8-3.1 28-200mm zoom on it. This son of a gun can pick out stars 100 yards away and bring them in sharp, it’s like a mini DSLR but weighs nothing. If it gets soaked I couldn’t care less though, just throw it in the bin and use the mobile. Bring on the stars.
Another half hour goes by and still nothing, starting to get bored and getting that “sardine” feeling, hang on a large silver Merc with blacked out windows has just turned up. We’re off.
Results of my personal photographic endeavours below. Photos by yours truly at the Prometheus World Premiere held in London. Managed to get shots of Charlize Theron, Logan Marshall-Green, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce The shots I got at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards on Tuesday night (see previous article) were superb shots but not ones that anybody could take.
These shots in this article are easily achieved by anybody with rudimentary photographic skills and an eye for a shot where others see nothing. Professional red carpet photography by Getty giving you the offical press angle also included at foot of this article with extra names such as Salma Hayek, Peaches Geldof, Ridley Scott, Jeremy Clarkson and on and on!
