The Twilight Breaking dawn Part 2 had it’s UK Premiere last night at The Odeon, The Vue and The Empire Cinemas in Leicester Square, Yes All 3! A big premiere it certainly was and made all the more special by the fact that it is the last in the Twilight series just like the Harry Potter films. 2000 screaming fans were at the LA Premiere the previous night and I would say we were talking at least 1K minimum at this London event and probably easily more, maybe even 2K. Fans holding up signs saying they camped for 72 hours to see this premiere along with screaming and hysteria. It was all happening………where do you start?

This article fundamentally though is about one thing, position is all important at these premieres and is more important than camera gear as the final photos from this event prove. DISASTER is a word that springs to mind and to be perfectly honest after the Harry Potter experience of last year my hopes for getting anything resembling a usable photo were put at odds of 1000/1. Slim at best so I wasn’t expecting much by arriving about 3 hours before the premiere start.

Event: The Twilight Breaking Dawn Premiere Part 2

Location: Odeon Cinema, Vue Cinema and Empire Cinema Leicester Square. London

Date: 14 November 2012

Time: Arrivals billed at 6pm but actually started at 5.30pm. Union J and the X Factor finalists were the first on the red carpet.

Guest List: Most of the cast, those unable to attend did Video presentations on the large screens.

Weather: Sunny sunshine with no clouds, no wind and no rain. glorious!

Press Photogs:  Not known as they were at the other side of the square. Probably similar numbers to Skyfall.

Crowds: Difficult to estimate but at least a thousand similar to Skyfall. It took over the whole of Leicester Square so maybe 1500 and possibly 2K or more.

Problems: some people were here days before for this premiere and due to the sheer size of this event it was difficult to figure out a good spot as this was not your normal premiere set up. After talking to numerous Security who directed me to Capital Radio or The Press Boys are down the cafe meet them there and other directions which involved serious credentials or event credentials, ended up at a pen outside the Vue cinema and with some chat with security explaining who I was eventually was let into an area with a view of the central staging area about 40M away just within flash range. If they don’t come down this red carpet area at least we have some sort of long range shot as backup for our troubles.. There must have been 200 in this small red carpet area alone. It turned out NO stars came anywhere near this area and was probably the worst place to be and of course moving was not an option. Should have brought the zoom lens.

Red Carpet Colour:  Red

Film Release Date: Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 is scheduled for a UK release of November 16th.

Position: Outside the Vue Cinema opposite Burger King and opposite the main staging area with huge Breaking Dawn backdrop.
