Opening night of the 57th BFI London Film Festival took place tonight at the Odeon in Leicester Square and it was packed for this one.

Captain Phillips was the film having it’s premiere which stars Tom Hanks. Basically was on the front row where the cars turned up but it wasn’t my night and managed to get just two shots. I’ve taken better shots lets put it that way! Had in an incredibly good run on photos the last couple of weeks and just new a night like this was coming. Even asked his wife who came over if she could get him to come over. Never done that before! Saw other photos from people in the crowd and they didn’t even manage to get anything like these. Tom Hanks is closing the Film festival with another film in about a week and a half. So a second chance for some better shots then?

The Diana World Premiere was held at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square tonight (5 September). The film stars Naomi Watts in the lead role as Princess Diana and Naveen Andrews as Hasnet Khan.

The film is due for release in the UK on 20 September 2013 and is based on the Diana book.

The film was directed by Oliver Herschbiegel. Naomi Watts has been nominated for an Academy Award for this role. Method acting at it’s hardest as she had a very public role and everybody from that time knew her well via TV and the media.

Focused mainly on getting shots of Naomi Watts. She proved  a tricky one to get but managed to get full length, crowd and close up shots after moving quite a few times and thanks to a 10L Mayo bucket!

First film premiere of the week after a month off and also a first for September. The Rush Film Premiere was held at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square and all the shots were taken from the garden.

Rush is a film set in the 70s showcasing the famous clash between two top Formula 1 drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt with direction by Ron Howard who directed films such as A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13

The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl, Natalie Dormer and Josephine De La Raume amongst others.

More on the film check the trailer video.

At the premiere most of the cast were in attendance along with some classic Formula 1 champions including Niki Lauda himself and Jackie Stewart  (didn’t get him).

Shots are mostly trademark head shots and portraits with a couple of fuller length shots.

It was a tough one for the headline between Olivia Wilde who looked knockout and Chris Hemsworth who plays the lead. The sheer mass hysteria with the women surrounding Chris Hemsworth (it was deafening) means he has to grab the headline shot.

The Lone Ranger Film Premiere was held at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square on Sunday 21 July. The film stars Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer and Helena Bonham Carter and is directed by Gore Verbinski.

Regulars know I don’t normally  shoot on weekends by hey……………it’s Johnny Depp and Yes I’m a huge fan so it was a case of business and a personal visit all rolled into one.

Crowds at this event? Oh Yesssss! Wrist Band No 0769 was the number I was wearing. Chances of getting a shot were looking remote indeed and it was chaotic in the crowds with a Capital C!

The red carpet was white and there was a horse? Security were spraying the crowds with water and handing out water bottles and it was jammed solid.

No Helena Bonham Carter!

Kimberley Garner seemed to wow the crowds on the night and claims the red carpet crown.

Photos of Amber Le Bon (daughter of Yasmin Le Bon) have been included as it’s such a nice shot, but it’s  slightly off focus due to the fact I called her name………….. she didn’t look….wrote her off………………put the camera down……………..somebody tapped me and said “she’s looking” and I snapped on a knee jerk reflex muttering the words “What The …?”

Guest List:

Alex Zane (presenting), Amber Le Bon, Armie Hammer, Diana Hardcastle, Diana Vickers, Elizabeth Chambers, George Sampson, Gore Verbinski, Harry Treadaway, Jade Williams, James Frain, Jerry Bruckheimer, John Fashanu, Kimberley Garner, Luke Treadaway, Pixie Lott, Ruth Wilson, Tom Wilkinson

Plot:
Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice. Rating 6/7/10 Info Courtesy IMDB

UK  Release: 9 august 2013

Trailer:  Video  From what was seen of the trailer at the premiere this film looks decent……………… but you never can tell from just the trailer!

The latest Superman offering called Man of Steel had it’s European Premiere at both the Odeon and Empire cinemas in Leicester Sqaure on wednesday 12 June. It’s a big one.

With an all star cast including Henry Cavill as Superman and other stars including Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe and Laurence Fishburn.. Direction is by Zach Snyder.

The premiere was billed for a 5.30pm start. No Kevin Costner,  he was unable to attend but the rest of the cast including the director were all at this event.

Struggled to get the women on this night including Amy Adams. Somebody asked me whether I got some good shots. The answer was with a shaky hand and a shrug and a ” I’ve taken better”. I wasn’t happy lets put it that way. That’s the way it goes sometimes……….especially with large premieres!

Cameras Used:  2 with 1 Flash Body and 1 Daylight Body no Flash

Weather:  Drizzle which turned to rain

Crowds:  Large but not as big as The Hobbit

Press: Must have been about 50

Location:  where the cars pulled up at the Swiss Clock end

Problems: Not enough female stars heading in my direction and a rather strange nicotine coloured screen at the internet cafe making colour and exposure judgements a bit problematic. These photos may be a tad off!

Film Plot:

A young journalist is forced to confront his secret extraterrestrial heritage when Earth is invaded by members of his race.

Rating: Metecritic rates as 17

Trailer:  13 minute preview trailer video

The Summer in February film premiere was held at the Curzopn Cinema in Mayfair on Monday 10 June and this was a small event and a small venue but which had quite a few names turn up including many of the cast but sadly no Emily Browning.

Names in attendance included Dominic Cooper, Clare Balding, Carol Vorderman, Allen Leech,
Dan Stevens, Mia Austen, Hattie Morahan, Stephen Fry, Nicholas Farrell and Max Deacon amongst others.

Due to the nature of this venue with a road runnin g right through the middle of it, vans, taxis, cyclists and other distractions appear in the background just when you hit the shutter button.

Film Plot:
A true tale of love, liberty and scandal amongst the Edwardian artists’ colony in Cornwall

UK Release Date
14 June 2013

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in the background at The World War Z World Premiere London

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in the background at The World War Z World Premiere London  Photo: Frank John for Famefad.com

The World War Z World Premiere was held in Leicester Square this Sunday afternoon on 2 June. Don’t normally shoot on the weekends but things like the BAFTA’s or Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in town…. you just have to make exceptions.

With an extensive guest list including the main star of the film Brad Pitt accompanied by of course Angelina Jolie who is not in this production but came to offer her support on the day. Names at the red carpet event included other cast members and guests including Adam Pitts, Chris Wolstenholme, Daniella kertesz, Dexter Fletcher, Dominic Howard, Joel Peat, John Gordon Sinclair, Kimberly Wyatt, Marc Forster, Matthew Bellamy, Mireille Enos, Natasha Bedingfield, Peter Capaldi and Thomas Howes.

The attitude for shooting this event from within the crowds was if I get anything at all half decent it will be a result, but in reality wasn’t expecting that much due to the names involved here and the resulting crowds and the fact I got there about a mere couple of hours before the premiere started.

For some reason the above photo grabs the headline for me with Angelina Jolie in the foreground and Brad Pitt watching over the proceedings of me taking a photo of her in the background. No direct eye contact from either of them, but they are there and nothing is being said but a lot is being said by their actions in front of my camera.  A possible silent nod of approval in  my direction.

There’s just something about this photo I can’t put my finger on, that makes it stand out, an intimate moment sort of shot amidst the chaos of a film premiere scenario. Something a bit different. This was a Brad Pitt night but with the recent health news surrounding Jolie the above  photo sort of sums up that life headlines and health are sometimes more important than a film which becomes secondary.

In summary managed to get a few decent shots more than what was expected anyway..
