The 2015 WTA Wimbledon Pre Party was held on 25 June 2015 at the Kensington Rooftop Gardens just off Kensington High Street which marks the fact that Wimbledon 2015 is just around the corner. One of the four major Grand Slam events.

This is my 3rd WTA Wimbledon Pre Party, I’ve been lucky for two years getting Maria Sharapova both times posing up right in front of me. Will I be lucky third time around???

IMG_3858b

All the tennis stars were expected to turn up including Sharapova (above) , The Williams sisters, Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, last years winner Petra Kvitova, Laura Robson and many more.

This is a hard event to get shots as technically they arrive by car, get out of the car, walk down the carpet, pose for the press then straight inside. The theory is to stand with the loudest craziest fans, get these stars attention and if lucky get them to pose up. That’s the theory and it’s a shaky one without firm foundations and unpredicatable in nature?

In reality this year was a different set up with a pen full of school kid age tennis fans right on the red carpet opposite us between the video interview area and where the cars pull up. There’s a saying in the performing arts “acting next to children and animals they will steal your limelight” and this year they did. Had a bad feeling about this.

In this game you have to keep pulling that “rabbit out of the hat” regardless of how the odds are stacked against you.

Luckily I brought along my newly acquired 70-200mm Tele zoom as I had a feeling my luck was going to run out at this event. Managed to come away with something just grabbing nano second candid shots here and there with officials and camera crew constantly getting in the way at that crucial moment. As a result mainly head and portrait shots with full length shots proving mainly elusive.

A monumentally hard night in photographic terms. May try for the stars at Wimbledon instead next year and give this event a miss. It was that bad!!!! I’m laughing today but the language was pretty bad last night. Hopefully my views will change by next year?

These photos never nearly got published.  Thanks to a member of the fairer sex having a few words saying “you have to get these pictures out” in my ear…… they are here LATE! My photographic results in the two links

Lady Gaga leaving her hotel in Central London on 9 June 2015

A chance to try out my new telephoto zoom lens and where better place to start than near the top of the celebrity tree and Lady Gaga.  About 4 hours waiting at a hotel in Central London and she didn’t let us down with her now classic cup of tea exit from her hotel. Nearly every pap in London must have been there along with a large number of fans.

Other names spotted earlier were Paul Gascoigne (Gazza) who was also staying at the same hotel and Carol Vorderman spotted Portland Place W1 getting into a black cab near the BBC.

Images are as is. Didn’t use a flash so picked up a lot of extreme brightness from the sheer volume of flash guns going off! Think the lens needs a bigger lens hood. Gallery link below.

Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2015 were held last night in Berkeley Sq in Mayfair in Central London and what a night.

Decided on an unusual angle for this years feature looking at the highlights but red dresses only. Don’t think anybody else has done this and they probably don’t have these shots either. The thing is I was actually there, the papers and fashion bloggers were not hence I was in no rush to get this out by 10pm last night like the rest of the media. There are some unique shots here!

4 in my opinion that stood out on the night because of the red dress factor were naturally Kate Hudson bringing that Hollywood Wow Factor, all of Little Mix, Fearne Cotton and last but certainly not least Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

There’s something about a woman in a red dress, songs have been written about it, it takes guts and confidence to pull it off, but when it’s done right it certainly has the wow factor going on.

Photos from the Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2015. One of the biggest awards events in the UK celebrity event calendar that attracts big name celebrities and big name photographers alike. A red carpet fashion and dress extravaganza showcasing Britain’s finest with a dash of Hollywood.

A special event for me as it marks my anniversary in this field of photography so has a very special place in my heart. This is my 4th Glamour Women of the Year Awards, 5th if you include 2011 where I was there with just a mobile phone for a camera (see Tumblr). Back then I really didn’t have the first idea but the 2012 pics have proven to be a pretty tough act to follow despite my then newb celebrity photog status.

With winds and rain and weather warnings for Tuesday it was looking to be a disaster but this event seems to be kinda blessed. The clouds parted, the rain stopped and the sun did it’s stuff allowing the stars to truly shine.

Celebrity arrival photos taken here from stage 1 of the arrival process from the pen where the cars pull up. My favourite pen, the stars are fresh and you are right in the thick of the action with film crew, car exit photographers, security, pr and pa. The only downside is that damn lampost! Most stars stop for photos some don’t. Candids and posed photos although candids are difficult to get at this event as you can appreciate.

The Ivor Novello Awards 2015 Edition were held today at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane Central London and played host to an array of stars both classic and new and up and coming. This is the 60th year these awards have been held.

Headline picture of the day for me is Shaznay Lewis and Nicole Appleton of All Saints. One of my all time favourite girl bands. As far as I’m concerned nothing comes close! Dig Nicole’s platforms!

This is a good event to get names that you don’t normally see on the celebrity event circuit, week in and week out. Some decent classic names that are the very pillars of the music industry along with more current stars that have been noticed by the Ivor Novello’s and who have decided to award accordingly.

A good mixture of candid and standard posed shots featuring names such as Brian May, Boy George, Bob Geldof , Labrinth, Aston Merrygold and more.

Gone with a candid shot of Pixie Lott and Oliver Cheshire looking the happy couple walking up the red carpet at this awards event.

The sun was out, so were the stars and of course so were the crowds Shooting from the crowds meant a wristband only admission which required an early Sunday rise of 5am.. My wristband was No88 which would guarantee a good spot pretty much which means a high chance of some good pictures. Last year they ran out of wristbands and I was lucky to get in.

Anybody that is anybody in the TV industry turns up at this event which covers all genres including soap, documentary, mini series, sport, comedy, drama, news and others. The fellowship gong is the coveted one reserved for those that have been in the industry for a considerable period of time and are highly respected as a result.

A good event for candid shots. All shots taken in front of the interview area which was a good spot for the more unusual shots. Grab the shots via the link  below.

Latest news at Fame Fad and behind the scenes for May 2015 with a look forward to what will be happening in May.

No celebrity photos were taken in April as I have been snowed under elsewhere and things didn’t go according to plan but it looks like the Fame Fad mysteries could be coming to an end in May. Further details further on in this article.

Therefore no photo of the month FROM April 2015, instead a couple of archive photos from my very early days as a celeb photog. These are my photos of the month.

Photo of the month April 2015. Amanda Seyfried close up at the Les Miserables Premiere, London 2013

Helena Bonham Carter close up at the Les Miserables Premiere, London 2013

Why do I like these two photos? Moody lighting, intimate and up close and personal, you can almost put your arms round them, very in your face and they scrub up well on closer inspection. Amanda Seyfried in particular certainly has it all going on!

Criticisms: No connection and no eye contact despite their close proximity. If you can believe it this was taken on a cold winters night and the temperature was just above freezing. Remember repeatedly asking Amanda for a photo and she just kept smiling looking anywhere accept my direction. When I finally did get what we call in the trade “The Eye” she was about 1 foot in front looking straight at me and the biggest smile, took the shot, she then went, checked the shot, completely blown out and over exposed and out of focus (too close) next to useless. You live and learn. Those were the good old days? Every photo has a story. The Amanda Seyfried story is particularly painful and one I will never forget.

So what is happening at Fame Fad in May. First event looks to be the TV BAFTAS further details below. I should be there unless it is chucking it down or I’m down with something serious.

Here’s a few things that are on my radar for May. There will be heaps of other stuff coming up and I’m normally made aware on the day hence just these dates below. Please note I don’t attend premieres anymore instead I try for candid shots at the hotel if I know where they are staying.

Normally the first Tuesday of June but has been the last Tuesday of May. Big event this will know nearer the time.

Events that will not be attended.

British Soap Awards will be taking place at Manchester’s Palace Theatre on Saturday 16 May.

Had a blast last year at this event which was held at the Hackney Empire in London but Manchester is just a trek too far for me for this sort of event. So a miss!

Laura Whitmore arrives at the 2015 TRIC Awards London with her lips bag

Laura Whitmore arrives at the 2015 TRIC Awards London with her lips bag

The 2015 TRIC Awards were held today 10 March at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in Central London. Thought I’d take a look and see what is going on!

Picked a tough spot amongst the photogs to get shots of the more posed variety but was right on top of where the cars pulled up which could produce the odd cracking and different shot, which it did.  As long suffering regulars know, I’m more interested in the intimate and candid moment style shots. Just meant I had to scream like a banshee to get people to turn round when they were posing and look right down the end where I was which was tough to put it mildly.

Highlight for me was Laura Whitmore who has ever was “on the money” in fashion terms. The shot above with her “lips bag” did it for me on the day, she was a matter of  feet away and a cracking shot. If you look closely at this shot, hair just gently blowing in the wind, nail polish on display, bag on full view and legs crossed. She’s done this before hasn’t she!

I’m officially back early April but keep your eyes peeled for further sporadic updates. As always watch for further news on the Twitter @famefad

Tamara Ecclestone at London Fashion Week AW 15 Day 2 at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Latest news at Fame Fad and behind the scenes for March 2015 with a look back at February and the highlights and a look forward to what will be happening in March.

Photo of the Month February 2015 Tamara Ecclestone family shot including her baby.

Why do I like this shot? It’s basically a family snap taken on the move before the steps of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office which was the staging area for the Julien MacDonald event at London Fashion Week. Celebrity babies are a tricky thing to photogragh but the parents are happy about being snapped and happy to have their child pictured as well. Even the baby looks to be enjoying the light show in front from the paps. Very difficult to get these sort of intimate shots and these photos are special and don’t come along too often hence it’s top billing here

Second fave shot is Ella Eyre arriving at the same event posing for a portrait style shot, with some of the general public trying to get her photo in the background. Got some full length shots of Ella coming up the stairs and also near her car on arrival but this shot seems to have something going on more than the others

Ella Eyre at London Fashion Week AW 15 Day 2 at the Foreign And Commonwealth Office

Third photo fave is Michelle Keegan on the first day of London Fashion Week at Somerset House leaving the Jasper Conran event. Got loads of shots of her but this close up shot with a strange hand motion and the empty drinks carton in the background stood out in my opinion. Is she waving or just showing her ring or is she showing some nifty finger moves?

FAME FAD NEWS MARCH
What’s happening March at Fame Fad. March will be an open book and a mystery month. Events are on, celebs will as always be around but this month the updates will be left in the hands of that thing that nobody can control called the weather.

If spring looks to be just around the corner and the weather looks to be lifting off it’s winter lows, updates will be here. March is a tricky month and the Siberian weather could return or the daffodils outside the window where I’m writing this just maybe right and better weather is on the way.

In summary there may be 1 or 2 updates in March or there could be a dozen. Normal service should resume April.

PHOTO STYLE. Have been doing a lot of reading of photography masters, looked at thousands of photos and watched numerous videos. It’s something I do every winter. Whether this has any effect on my photographic style remains to be seen. It’s something all good photographers do otherwise your standard of photography doesn’t progress to higher levels and remains static.

TYPES OF EVENTS. Getting picky on the events that will be covered. My style is increasingly leaning towards very close and intimate shots with what I call a connection as in plenty of eye contact. Events nowadays are chosen to maximise on this situation. Here’s some events in February that were not covered and the reason why?

BAFTAS: Weather was cold but fine but the lack of Hollywood heavyweight names this year = a no show from me.

BRIT AWARDS: Some names were there including the now infamous Madonna but the venue is not the best.

ELLE STYLE AWARDS: Great event and one that I definetly would attend but it clashed with the last day of London Fashion Week. Had a stack of photos that had to be uploaded and edited so time was an issue. A tablet would have resolved this issue. Something that is seriously being looked into.

MOBILE PICS: A first for this website is photos via my mobile. First one went live just after LFW and looks like it generated interest. Could be used for behind the scenes shots, candid shots even video or anything else. Obviously the photo quality will not be as good as from the DSLR but whatever is taken can be uploaded within seconds.

That’s it for the March News. As always keep up to date with the latest developments at the Fame Fad Twitter @famefad

The Fame Fad Candid Moment Photo Awards. The Top 25 of 2014 with the Top 6 in large size. Strange, bizarre and not your normal sort of posed celebrity photos. Stars doing rabbit ears, sticking out their tongue, laughing their heads off, trying to make smoke rings, dancing, wearing space suits, locked in cages by gorillas and much more. What can I say. Celebrity photos with a difference? I’ll let the photos do the talking!

The film also stars Chris Pine, Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick who were not spotted leaving the hotel at that time.
