Vera Zvonereva the relative newcomer to the top level game play in the women’s tennis Grand Slams has stunned everybody by beating the No1 seed Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-3 in the US open Semi Finals.

 Wozniacki struggled to maintain her blistering form that she kept up throughout the whole tournament when faced with Zvonereva and the gutsy Russian played with style and grace to claim her place in the final. As a matter of interest Wozniacki who is World no2 behind Serena Williams, if she would have won the US Open she would have claimed the No1 crown. The other semi final was between Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams and as predicted Clijsters came through and claimed the upper hand in what was a long drawn out 3 set match something you would expect . Williams was devastating in the early stages, but faltered in the second-set tie-break, enabling Clijsters to recover and win 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-4.

A Zvonereva and Clijsters showdown is the result the question is…… who will win. According to the BBC Zvonereva has beaten Clijsters in their two most recent meetings and she will be all too aware of that fact. Based on the semi finals things look to be playing into the Zvonereva camp with a convincing 2 set win compared to the three set tie breaker with Clijsters and Williams.Betting odds we have excluded for this final as the numbers are purely academic, either one could win. Things remain unchanged for us though and our money is on Clijsters but a Grand Slam win from Zvonereva is looking increasingly likely……will that event be this years US open???!
